New Year, New Plans: Why Falling Off Track Still Counts

Merry Christmas to all, and we wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe New Year. 🎄❄️
This time of year always brings reflection—and planning. At Vault Ventures, we treat the end of the year as more than just a calendar flip. It’s when we zoom out, evaluate where we’ve been, and start mapping where we want to go next.
We don’t just create one business plan—we look at each property individually, asking questions like:
- Where can this property improve?
- Is there room for more beds, better layouts, or stronger amenities?
- How can we elevate guest experience while increasing long-term value?
Planning gives us clarity. It provides a roadmap. But here’s the honest part—we’re just as guilty as anyone of falling off the plan. The difference? We review and recalibrate monthly. Falling off doesn’t mean failure—it just means it’s time to jump back on.

One of our favorite reminders comes from Vince Lombardi:
“If you chase perfection, you will catch excellence.”
The same applies to goals and resolutions. Even if you follow your plan for 10 days before slipping, that’s still 10 days of progress. Momentum compounds. Progress counts.
Business plans are a lot like New Year’s resolutions—they’re living, breathing tools, not static documents. They’re meant to be adjusted as life, markets, and opportunities evolve. And if your goals feel easy? They probably aren’t ambitious enough.
If the goal is to lose 20 pounds, aim for 30 or 40.
If the goal is growth, aim higher than feels comfortable.

That mindset ties directly into Grant Cardone’s The 10X Rule—setting goals bigger than you think possible and taking more action than feels necessary. When goals fall short, they still pull you further forward than conservative planning ever would.
We’ve seen firsthand how powerful alignment and buy-in can be—whether with teams, partners, vendors, or clients. Success accelerates when everyone understands the vision and believes in it.
As we plan for the year ahead, we’re focused on:
- Improving properties one step at a time
- Creating better guest experiences
- Growing sustainably without losing sight of family, health, and adventure
Personally, the resolutions are familiar:
- Better health
- More family time
- More fishing, hunting, and outdoor resets
- More intentional travel and experiences
Plans won’t always go perfectly—and that’s okay. What matters is showing back up, stacking good days, and continuing forward.

What’s on your resolution list this year?
Are you building, refining, or simply getting back on track?
