This Week at Vault Ventures: Waterfalls, Wagging Tails, and a Stay Nobody Wanted to End
It’s been a good stretch for stories out here in the Western UP. One family staying at Goose’s Hall in South Range — booked through Airbnb — liked their week so much that partway through their trip they reached out to ask if they could stay an extra week. Turns out one week in the historic Kaleva Temple building wasn’t enough.
Over at Sandy Lake Retreat, we hosted an Airbnb couple who’ve spent the last three summers exploring the UP while living full-time out of their RV and house-hunting for a small place of their own up here. They showed up a little later than planned because — in their words — they got “distracted by waterfalls” on the drive in, and they were already looking forward to a few days of rockhounding along the shore.
Down in Chassell, longtime guests Kathy and Bill — another Airbnb booking — were back in the area handling some family business near Hancock, and they made a point of telling us at checkout how much they loved their stay at Adventure Outpost B. And up at Sandy Hollow, an Airbnb guest named Lindsay drove up from Wisconsin with her (very small, five-pound) dog in tow for a week of kayaking, fishing, and fires by the lake — she summed it up perfectly: “We’ve had a blast!”
It wasn’t just lake life, either — bear season is bringing familiar faces back. Both trail groups this week were actually return bear hunters who book with us year after year: one rolled into Sandy Lake Lodge (via Airbnb) with four trucks and trailered side-by-sides, and another crew of eight — booked direct with us — settled in at Jake’s Bed & Bar for a ten-night hunting basecamp trip.
