Saturdays and Steady Progress

Happy Saturday from Jake’s Bed & Bar! So many Turkeys out and running around this morning. I seriously considered hitting the Sturgeon River this morning for some steelhead fishing—after all, the weather yesterday was great, and Saturdays are made for tugging fish and soaking in spring. A fresh catch in the frying pan would’ve hit the spot.
But instead, here I am, back at it on the floor project at Jake’s. This has become a grind of sorts, and we’re really making progress. The hard, cold tile is being replaced with a much more comfortable finish, and it’s transforming the feel of the space one section at a time. I kicked off the day with the Live, Let, Thrive podcast, then bounced to Audible, and finally landed on a business movie classic—Moneyball with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. I consider it motivational listening while working. Who else uses movies to keep things moving?
We’re also getting things ready for another traveling professional who’s coming in for a 3-month stay—always exciting to welcome a new guest. Plus, vacation season is heating up fast with more summer bookings rolling in across the board.
And speaking of upgrades, we’re just two weeks away from starting Central Air installs at three of our bigger units: Kaleva East and Goose’s Hall in the Kaleva Temple Building, and right here at Jake’s. These spaces have relied on portable units in the past, but we’re investing in a long-term comfort solution. It’s a big expense upfront, but between the energy savings and a more balanced indoor climate, we’re confident it’ll be worth it—both for us and our guests.
The sun’s shining, the birds are tweeting, and the list is shrinking. If you’re out enjoying the weather today, I hope it’s filled with all the good stuff. And if you ever want to talk fishing, rentals, or real estate—we’re always here.
Onward we run. Cheers to a productive weekend and the joy of spring finally arriving in the U.P.!
