First 60-Degree Day, Feeding Deer & Fishing Gear

All fun in the sun today! It’s finally happening—temps are pushing 60 degrees for the first time this year, the snow is melting, the ice is breaking up, and we’re starting to see open water on the pond again. Spring is making itself known.

With the beautiful weather, we dropped a couple of gallons of feed for the deer last night and, like clockwork, they were in and feeding within an hour. This morning brought an extra reward—five deer returned to feed just as the sunrise lit everything in gold. Quiet, peaceful, and another reminder of why we love it here.

Yesterday’s errands started out focused on picking up rental supplies… but somehow a bunch of fishing gear found its way into my cart. Weird, right? With trout season opener just two Saturdays away, I guess I’ve got fishing on the brain. We’re already making plans for some spring runs to Marquette and Munising—there’s no better way to welcome the season.

On the business side of things, we’re putting the final touches on Jake’s Bed & Bar so it’s ready for next weekend’s MTU graduation guests. We’re also expanding a Whispering Pines unit by finishing out three additional bedrooms, which will open up more flexibility for groups and families. And we’ve made headway on an unused studio apartment at the Kaleva Temple building—we’re hoping to bring that one online by summer. As always, there’s something happening somewhere!

The sun’s out, the air is warm, and there’s life in every direction. Get out and enjoy it today—we definitely are.

Cheers to spring in the U.P.!
