The Vault View: Coyotes, Foxes, and Fall’s Slow Turn

.Coyotes and foxes have been stealing the show on our trail cams lately—especially the back one. Our dogs keep the pond area quieter, so the real action happens deep in the woods. This week we even caught a daytime shot and video of a gorgeous red fox!

Both cameras needed full battery charges, so we pulled them today to recharge—but not before snagging some great shots. One of the best surprises? A non-typical 3 or 5-point buck showing off a few stickers at the base of his tines. He’s often joined by a young spikehorn, which makes for a great contrast between the two.

As always, our usual suspects made their appearances—plump raccoons ready for winter, chatty squirrels, and one unmistakably stinky skunk. The warm weather has really thrown fall for a loop this year. Some trees are already bare while others are still 90 percent green, making the color change feel almost paused mid-transformation.

Even so, the nights are cooling, the critters are active, and the woods are alive with motion. Here’s to another round of batteries charged, cards cleared, and memories captured.

Cheers to red fox sightings, antlered visitors, and the ever-changing canvas of autumn in the U.P. 🦊🍂
