September in the Keweenaw: Busy Season, Early Color, and Time in the Woods
September is supposed to be the slow time of year. The kids are back in school and the summer rush is over. Nobody told our reservations, because they keep coming in.
Around here it’s a ton of stuff at once. We have four houses under contract for real estate clients, the phone won’t quit, and I’m writing this from the road on my way to a showing.
Turnover Season
Our summer medium-term rentals are rolling over. The pipeline welders have moved out, so the campground is open again. A few apartments have opened up too, including one where workers with the National Historical Park in Calumet finished their stint and moved on. We’re cleaning that unit now.
Partridge Season
Small game season is open, so I put almost 40 miles on the trails this past weekend. Saw no birds at all, just a couple of deer and some chipmunks. It was quiet, but time in the woods is never wasted. Fresh air, good friends, and it makes you feel better about life.
We didn’t come up empty on wildlife sign, though — came across a pack of coyote tracks crossing the sand along the powerline. Hard to say exactly how many were in the group, but it was a bunch of them traveling together.
Fall Colors
They’re coming, but unevenly. Some spots are popping and others are barely turning. Orange, yellow, and red are mixed in, and there’s more to come. It looks like a heavy color season for visitors. If you’re planning a trip up to the Keweenaw, book early.
Busy, but life is good, and we’re looking forward to more wins (and a few losses) ahead.
